PORTFOLIO 2022

Three Equal Texts 2022
Pen on Paper
In 2007, Micah Lexier devised Two Equal Texts in which the artist presented his friend with a 191 character text and asked him to create a second text using every letter and punctuation mark that Lexier used in his original. The original text described this very task, and the two were subsequently displayed side by side.

This is my attempt.

They Probably Aren’t But There’s A Chance They Might Be 2018
Installation view
Two doorstops which featured in a number of previous works. The one on the left is holding a door open to a lamp-lit text installation (comprising black vinyl lettering cut in my own handwriting and affixed to the wall using magnets) alluding to the conditions of their relationship. The other props another doorway open, watching from afar. But hold on, is that a fire door...

Out of Hours 2016-2018
CD album
Audio recordings of janitorial staff shouting ‘Hello’ into an empty space as they locked the building at night. Each recording extends throughout the night until the space is opened again in the morning.

I Don’t Recognise You (Some of my Defence in the Likely Event of a Home Invasion) 2017
Installation view
An homage to Jason Dodge’s Darkness Falls series of works- while some of my best defences are displayed in the space, the flat remains more vulnerable and my activities within it compromised. Items ranged from kitchenware to the shower hose and toilet brush. Each item was also accompanied by a formal risk assessment determining their threat level.
Submission for the MFA Interim Show at The Glasgow School of Art.

Ventriloquisers 2017
Installation View
Found footage of an animal doorstop holding open a bedroom door accompanied by an ominous bass soundscape. This gradually builds in intensity until the sound of keys and the front door opening, at which point the score cuts and conversation can be heard from elsewhere in the flat. The gaping shark slippers seen under the bed were also present in the space, as well as an iPhone on the floor displaying fractured footage of the bedside lamp in the background possibly moving.

Infernal 2017 (ongoing- not currently fully resolved)
Books
Over 40 English language translations of Dante Alighieri’s Inferno. I have hitherto created the opening chapter of an audio book amalgamating all of the different translations into one infernal loop.

Night Lights 2016
Moving Image
Footage of the streetlights turning off between 01:00 and 01:40 in a designated neighbourhood watch zone.
